Originally from the Washington, D.C.–Maryland–Virginia (DMV) metropolitan area, Kenny Lerum brings a rich and eclectic background in both secular and sacred music to Christ the King, where he serves as Music Director.
After graduating from Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, Maryland, in 1985, Kenny attended the prestigious Peabody Conservatory of Music at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, where he studied composition. He later attended Berklee College of Music, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Songwriting in 1989. It was at Berklee that he met his wife, Ellen Cabaluna-Lerum, who serves as Christ the King’s Director of Liturgy.
Following his move to the New York–New Jersey area, Kenny signed with Peermusic Music Publishing. Among his early successes was the enduring wedding classic “For You”, first recorded by his high school friend, Kenny Lattimore, on Columbia Records. The song has continued to reach new audiences through numerous recordings and television appearances, including The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful, Moesha, Unsung, and, most recently, Beyond the Gates. “For You” has also been recorded by fellow Filipino recording artists Kyla and Jed Madela and Smooth Jazz saxophonist, Kirk Whalum.
In October 2026, “For You” is set to be featured on Grammy Award winner Victoria Monét’s forthcoming sophomore album, Frequency of Love. The song’s enduring appeal is a testament to Kenny’s talent as a songwriter and his ability to create music that continues to resonate across generations and genres.
Kenny and Ellen have called the Las Vegas valley home since 2004. Together, they have devoted themselves to serving the Catholic community and the Archdiocese of Las Vegas through spirited music and prayer filled liturgies. Since 2014, they have served at Christ the King, following previous ministries as Music Directors and liturgists at St. Joseph Husband of Mary, St. Peter the Apostle, Holy Family, and the Shrine of the Most Holy Redeemer since 2004.
With decades of experience spanning professional songwriting, music publishing and production, liturgical ministry, music direction and performance, Kenny continues to share his gifts in service of the Church and the wider community.
